peace of mind
i saw what i wanted to see, heard what i did not want to hear, increased stress and syllable-timed language proficiency, needed space that was mine, made primary what should have been secondary, thought about you as a stand-in, talked about the weather (as a last-ditch effort), smoked on the balcony, jumped the picket fence, turned to mysticism, turned into my ancestor, tuned the last guitar on earth, waited for my turn, beat the daylights out of my demons, sneaked in suspicion, dived into the estuary, speeded up black diamonds, sacrificed the rising sun, scolded the waning moon, forgot about peace of mind
